Not because it’s evil. Because it acts before we’ve written the rules.
1. The Problem: Speed Without Governance
Agentic AI is not an extension of traditional software. It is a new category of system – one that makes decisions, takes actions, and adapts to its environment without human intervention at every step.
This is not science fiction. It is already happening.
And it introduces risks that our existing security models are not equipped to handle.
2. Why Agentic Swarms Are Different
| Dimension | Traditional Systems | Agentic Swarms |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Attack Vector | Code exploitation (e.g., RCE, BGP hijacks) | Semantic manipulation (prompt injection, goal hijacking) |
| Propagation | Manual or scripted lateral movement | Autonomous cascading via natural language and APIs |
| Trust Model | Fixed roles & ACLs | Often implicit trust between agents |
| Blast Radius | Isolated to a process or host | Potentially network-wide across all connected tools |
In agentic systems, a single manipulated email can cause a swarm to execute actions that no one authorized – in milliseconds.
3. The Structural Risk: Profit Over Safety
The market is driven by speed and profit – not by safety.
The major players (OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, Google) have successfully lobbied against binding regulation. Even the EU’s AI Act has been watered down under corporate pressure.
The result:
-
Black-box systems making decisions in healthcare, justice, and infrastructure
-
No transparency about how decisions are made
-
No accountability when things go wrong
This is not a conspiracy theory. It is a documented reality.
4. The Crackdown Has Begun
The assumption that these companies could continue unchecked has proven false.
Recent developments:
-
42 US states have demanded that OpenAI, Meta, Anthropic, and Google implement protections against harm
-
A coalition of state attorneys general has opened an investigation into OpenAI
-
The US government has imposed export controls on advanced AI models from Anthropic
-
A broad legal battle between Elon Musk and Sam Altman has exposed internal conflicts at OpenAI
The era of the “Wild West” in AI is ending. The question is not whether regulation will come – but how.
5. The European Imperative
Beyond the technical risks, there is a geopolitical one.
Relying exclusively on US hyperscalers exposes European organizations to:
-
The CLOUD Act – allowing US authorities to access data stored by US companies, even if it’s in Europe
-
FISA Section 702 – enabling foreign surveillance
-
The Data Port Act – giving the US government broad access to data
This is not about anti-Americanism. It is about sovereignty.
Europe must act – not out of fear, but out of responsibility.
6. The Solution: Multivendor Agentic Swarms
This is why I wrote the book.
Multivendor Agentic Swarms is not a theoretical exercise. It is a practical framework for:
-
Reducing blast radius – by avoiding single points of failure
-
Ensuring resilience – through model-agnostic, vendor-diverse architectures
-
Maintaining sovereignty – by using European providers where possible (Mistral, Aleph Alpha, open-source models)
The problem is real. The solution is documented. And it works.
